He has merely been attacked because like so many scientists, he has noted that all of the models proposed by those who attack him have failed. It is the models, the scientists who promote the models and the flacks that support them that are discredited.

Galileo had a conflict with orthodoxy of the church and the Inquisition, not with scientists.

you dance around the point trying to change the subject....

Let me help, by taking away the eay out.

"Because the scientists had a consensus that the Atom was the smallest form of matter, did not make it True". Their so called Consensus was proven to be false when their tests and models didn't work and match reality...see any parallel here?

The Christian church had an issue with science and the earth circling the sun theory?

And the MMGW religion has issues with some current theories as well?

His conflict was with the predominant consensus on the organization of the solar system, so the analogy used was spot on.

At some point, one has to realize that debating with MMGW campaigners is like debating with flat earthers. The good news is that the fraud that is MMGW will be definitively revealed for what it is over the next few years. The climate isn't going to track the predictive models of the IPCC, and while they will do what they can to segue into 'climate change' vs. 'global warming', everyone will remember them and their supporters for the Goobers who said the earth was heating up. So unlike so many tough scientific questions, this one won't be hard to sort out. We either will, or will not heat up. Simple. Since we haven't been, and won't warm to any significant or harmful degree in the future, the case will soon be settled, and except for the billions wasted, we can all have a good laugh at yet another failed leftist agenda item.

As an aside, the Pope was a Galileo supporter because the idea that the earth circled the sun was not all that controversial, and solved a lot of observational problems with a geocentric model. There is a reason why the oldest observatory is the Vatican's. Galileo ran afoul of the Pope by making him look like a dope in a book he wrote, and went onto the permanent poop list as a result.

Non theists have used a doctored version of the incident as a basis for contending that religion is the enemy of science, which is kind of rich, since western science was developed by the church.

A Tuesday (the THIRD DAY of the week by the way) bible study...what next on CF?

Joshua, chapter 10, contains the account of a great battle between the children of Israel and the pagan Amorites.

As the battle progressed, and extended daylight was needed to complete the operation, Joshua prayed: “O sun stand still over Gibeon, O moon over the Valley of Aijalon” (Josh. 10:12).
And so, the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the fray was completed (v. 13).

First, the Bible student should observe that the language employed, “Sun, stand still,” is phenomenal jargon. That is, from our vantagepoint, the sun appears to move. Accordingly, we commonly use such expressions as “sunrise” and “sunset” without any loss of scientific credibility. This is an important interpretative principle to note.

Oh, I have no clue whether Herbert gave a speech that day, or if he did, what he could possibly have been going on about. It just seemed somehow as relevant to the conversation as Coop's posting, so I thought "what the heck....", I might as well post the first thing that came to mind.
