My brother, former Air Force pilot, calls that a "PIO" as in "pilot induced oscillation" or in this case APIO. Get the right frequency of feedback and things just keep getting worse and worse.

The AP is Simrad AC42N with the RC42N fluxgate compass. Just realized how strange that I couldn't get into the pilot contoller when I think that's where the gain control is, too, and that's definitely something that should be accessible. It's all a new system and I haven't dug into it much so will be spending more time on it soon. Given my lack of knowledge on the thing, it worked remarkably well. I was very pleased. My old pilot would take off on 90 degree turns if you looked at it cross ways so I haven't been able to place a lot of trust in this AP before my trip. Now, I'm a huge fan...

Hi, You just installed the AP? How come the RC42 compass? I thought that had been discontinued. I just installed the same AP but it came with the Precision-9 compass that the Simrad says is the new version.

By the way, if you have questions you can call Simrad and easily speak directly to one of their techs. I've called a couple of times and gotten very good assistance.
