Can I fix this anchor rope?

Color coding the three strands helps. You can also do so with colored marker down the length of the strand. Also, splicing old rope is much harder than newer more supple rope.

Re: Can I fix this anchor rope?

Before opening up the line to the 3 strands...

Zip tie TIGHT right by where you want to insert the first tuck.
Its a trick for while learning to keep the line from untwisting and ending up with a loose splice.

Opening the line for each set of tucks should get a little harder because of the effect on the twist of the line.
Cut the zip tie when the backsplice is complete.

Re: Can I fix this anchor rope?

Remember the third goes backwards on the first lay. From then they all go the same way.

Re: Can I fix this anchor rope?

Actually, a long back splice is a MUCH better way to do this if you have a windlass. Stronger and feeds like silk.

The stuff you can learn about working with lines (rope) is just about endless.
