Calling all Mermaids

Ladies, where are you lately? Im seeing very little participation in debates at present. I say this because a certain thread has just made me realise how one sided the responses are, ie, typically male, and I feel we need more objective ballance

As head cat wrangler of the Mermaids, I implore you to get more involved in the forum discussions and improve the quality of our debating skills and generally enhance the CF experience.

Come on Girlies, we need your input.

Not exclusively mine, I robbed it from Winston Churchill. He was a wordsmith if ever there was one

Hey Hunni - I totally agree. I think part of the problem might well be that us ladies, being more intelligent on the whole, like to keep our contributions helpful and polite...

I've been thinking of ways we could boost the Mermaids participation in the forum. So far I have:

Re: Calling all Mermaids

I would like to join the mermaids. I am a cruiser onboard a 43ft Slocum with my husband and 6 yr old son. Currently in Mexico along the Costa Alegre/Gold Coast.

Can you let me in? Thanks,
Chris

I wonder if somebody should start a female equivalent of that "certain thread". Equivalent not only in OP, but also in our discussion of it. Would those endearing terms for the wanted crew member make their way into the thread?

Re: Calling all Mermaids

Reviving thread.
Is everybody ( mermaids) subscribed to the group?

I just realized that when you subscribe to a thread or group, a drop down table asks you if you want to be notified daily, weekly , or not at all. It defaults at "not at all". I skipped that part, so even though I was subscribed, I wasn't getting notified of activity.

So just wanted to put the word out. Hope all is well.

Re: Calling all Mermaids

So out of curiosity how active is Mermaids? The women sections is not very active.

So do bi/transgender qualify?

My wife and I have 7 grown children, 23 grand children and 4 great grandchildren, and we are ONLY 45 YEARS OLD! OK, so we/I lie a bit/tad about our age. Anyway, there is not much we/I have not done/been though/seen.

If not that is OK!

[QUOTE=SaucySailoress;926298] I think part of the problem might well be that us ladies, being more intelligent on the whole, like to keep our contributions helpful and polite... [QUOTE]

I'd have to agree with the helpful and polite criteria. Furthermore, if it's just being stupid, I've other things I'd rather do. I do not respond well to what some perceive as internet humor. As much of it is promulgated by male chauvinists, I find some of it distatsteful. Why on earth would I then want to participate?

Yet, some of the "women's issues" could easily be men's issues as well, like sewing hatch covers, or making templates for port screens, for instance.

I'm actually curious, does one of you care to name the thread that may need female input?

Ann

Re: Calling all Mermaids

Are wannabe cruisers welcome? My husband and I hope to buy a boat within the next two years, while I learn to sail and he learns to cook on a boat.

Thank you. What's the role/purpose of the mermaids, while we're at it?
