Buying Boat In US And Getting It To Europe..

Hi, i'm thinking of buying a sailboat in us, and i need to get it to norway somehow. I can't go to us myself to look at it becouse of a little police-record... I'm looking at boats here and there, but us seems to have good prices on decent boats.
Thing is then i'd need someone to chek it out for me, send up to date pictures and maybe help me ship it, or sail it over.
Any thoughts on how i should do this?

It is plenty of time and effort. One hour of work of a skilled person is roughly EUR 50. Delivery is well over EUR 100 per day.

Probably cheaper find a decent boat in the EU. If you are in Norway, Sweden has a huge s/h market full of very well built and maintained boats.

This has also been my impression. Look at cats (as an example), I find that the prices of boats in Europe are a little less than in the U.S. Some people have made a small business of sailing European boats to the US to resell at a profit.

Since the currency inversion, though, maybe it's the other way around.

Depending on your police record issue, you might try coming to the U.S. anyway. If it is not a major crime, and if you have a "compelling" reason to be in the U.S. (i.e. making a large purchase), I believe you may find them to be lenient in granting the visa.

Re: Buying boat in us and getting it to europe..

Its not a big thing, i admitted to have smoked some weed once... Also heard something about that since i only admitted it, and they didn't take any tests that it might not be on there. So i'm not 100% sure i even have a record..
I'll chek it out once i get back to mainland. And might try to go to us anyway.
And i think its cheaper in us now becouse of currency thingy.
But since i have no clue, exept what i read in books and so about sailing, should i try and hire/take on crew or something? I do know a few people that knows how to sail, but..

So you don't have any convictions? Who did you admit this to? If this ever was an admission criteria, I don't think it is any more. Marijuana is becoming gradually legalized throughout the U.S. I will fall down in shock if someone is getting rejected at the border for having smoked weed once.

Are you sure this happened in the US? Was it in 1950?

Re: Buying boat in us and getting it to europe..

best bet would be to make an application for a b1-b2 visa in your home country, costs about $150,you will need it if on a boat in the states anyway.
drink driving and minor stuff are not a reason to refuse a visa, terrorism, bank robbing, moral terpitude however they take very seriously!
if refused you lost $150,applications involve an interview, and they are more interested in if you pose an overstay/illegal worker risk.

Then i think i'll be fine since it's only some weed, if anything.
I'll look up on the visa later

Another idea would be to get help purchasing the boat, and have it sailed to Canada, then you meet the boat and crew in Canada.

If the boat is in Florida then you could get it delivered in similar fashion to the Bahamas or Mexico.

buying a boat at distance without physically checking it out first sounds like a recipe for expensive disaster
