Buying a charter boat through the Moorings

Where can I get the numbers ($) for buying a boat through the Moorings or other companys? What I would like to know is how much is the boat and if I leave it in charter for 5 years how much will I still owe on the boat? Because I have been thinking that I could buy a boat and if it was paid down to what my Irwin is worth I could sell the Irwin and have a much newer boat. I' starting to see why the Cats are popular in the Caribbean and that is where I'm planning to spend my time.

Yacht Ownership by Moorings

You'll find the info on Yacht Ownership here:

www.moorings.com/yachtownership.asp

I'm very happy about going for a catamaran. A lot more space, horizontal and faster cruising, two engines, two rudders, ...

But I went for Sunsail which you can read about on www.sunsail.com

Sunsail calls it Yacht Partnership:

Most seem happy with this deal once they accept it is a used boat. Some deals include for you to have off-peak time on your own boat.
Personally I wouldn't want tto wait for three/five years, I'd rather buy even older and have the budget to bring it up to my spec.

Just had a look at the Sunsail blurb. Ten weeks a year on your or another boat. Most marina boats don't go out that much!

Irwin,

I would look at boats coming out of charter. That way you can get an idea of what will be delivered to you at the end of the contract.......BEST WISHES on entering the DARKSIDE of sailing.....LOLOLOLOLOL

Every way I have looked at this, it seems like a really bad deal for the boat owner, and not such a bad deal for the Moorings. A $650,000 boat ends up selling for $300,000 after charter service, and you still have a mortgage. Best just to buy the boat for $300,000.

The Charter system only makes financial sense if you use the owner time (either on your own or another boat in another location) all the way to the maximum number of weeks allowed.

Before getting too carried away, please note that this thread is 5-1/2 years old. Not that it isn't an interesting subject...

Awwwh gee, HUD, if we didn't want to get carried away we'd be doing laundry or some other socially acceptable chores!

Sorry, no lawn mowing today.

Just to add to the story IrwinSailor didn't buy the charter boat and Gisle sold the CF forum to Andy and went sailing. Ideas have a way of working out as they will and not always as expected.
