Buying a Boat in Singapore

I have some delaminating veneer on the bulkhead plywood, thinking of stripping and gluing a new veneer. anyone bought veneer from somewhere before?

probably will look around at carpentry workshops.

There are some good quality workshops who work with veneers at Ang Mo Kio Ave 3.
Industrial Park 2.
Just have a walk around and see who you want to use

Also interested in what people pay for cleaning. I've been approached by a few guys to do topsides and hull here at RSYC since my boat arrived, quoting anything between $400 and $700 a month (weekly).

I figure I used to pay my domestic helper $300 a month shoreside, so $400 including hull and topsides doesn't seem like a bad deal.

I think you are looking at a normal rate, maybe even cheap. Just beware that they must have a work permit or be nationals or PRs here. The onus is on you to check....

Yeah, guy is local, works at the marina and cleans on his off-days

I went to one 15 marina yesterday but couldn't find any boaters around to chat with. I guess most owners are HNW and they hire professional crew to do all the maintianance for their boats.

Anyone dropping by Boater's Bar later today for the happy hour? Would like know more about the club and boating from you guys. I'm currently not a member there and of course I will pay for my own drinks.

Hi mate

The happy hour is on Fridays, it was on last night. There was a good number of people at the Boater's Bar from 6.30pm. If you PM me next week I'll make the point of meeting you (if I am around, my job sometimes takes me away) and buying you the first beer.

Not all the owners are rich here. I do all my maintenance, and I mean all. If I get something wrong at least I haven't paid someone else to screw it. You'll find cruising people are often like this.

after much twiddling of thumbs, and researching, she is finally on the hard.

am also tossing about the idea of re-propping her. My amateur attempt with the Vicprop calculator gave me a 15x9.2 3-blade spec; whereas the folding prop lady advised 15x11 3-blade. how would I know which is better? sigh. She is currently a fixed 13x?.? (yet to measure the pitch)

Sorry to not be of help... but where did you decide to haul out?

There's word of the yard at Changi having some money put into it to get bigger boats out on the slip... but we'll have to wait and see.

Hi James! Haven't been active socially at the club just sailing in the day. I brought her to Dalac, which is opposite Sembawang shipyard, in JB. Need someone to actually do the work.

Fair enough :-) the csc bar is a dangerous place... Very hard to drag oneself away from!

I'd be very interested in hearing how things go at dalac (and how much to expect to pay if that's ok). I need to come out and do antifouling soon.

I'd also be interested to hear about your experience. In my case I need to find a slip that can take the 7.5m beam of our Maverick 400 catamaran...I don't believe any of the regular SG slips can do the job.
