Buying a boat at the ends of the earth

Hi All: I may be in the market for a new (to me) boat. I would be interested in hearing from members who have purchased boats that end up in those parts of the world that do not lend themselves to an easy return to their home country since return would involve a long slog to windward ,vast distances to cover or other issues that might allow a purchase at a very large discount.
Panama has long had this reputation with many cruising boats and few buyers, but how about the west indies for European boats or the far pacific
where American and European sailors are faced with the Indian ocean and long runs in pirate infested waters as funds run low etc.?
What paperwork, technical difficulties, lack of surveyors, travel costs etc. did you encounter ? Were the savings real or would a knowledgeable buyer have a reasonable chance to land a huge bargain?

The "titling specialists" for the boat I recently bought in California may do the work for boats bought in Mexico. You might find some info. on their site: Mary Conlin Vessel Documentation Easy, Quick and Simple for pleasure yachts, commercial boats, merchant vessels, charter yacht, Coast Guard boat registration for private boat, commercial ship, charter vessel registration, initial documentations titli
