Re: Brisbane to Lord Howe Island: Passage Planning

Can I ask what the costs were? I understand mooring is compulsory, and there's a daily fee. Any other costs associated?

How long did you stay? Was it possible to extend your stay if the weather looked unfavourable?

Lord Howe Island.pdf

See attached file, specifically Section 4. on Mooring.
Given the limited number of moorings, I booked a two week block about 6 months ago. As it turned out, they will only bill me for the time on the mooring which for us was sadly only 7 days. There were on other charges except a $25 key deposit for the ablutions facilities on the jetty which we generally used rather than use the on board holding tank. This was refunded. Although we needed no additional provisions from the Island, there was a reasonable assortments of basic foods, fruits and vegetables to be had should one need to restock. We did buy some fresh Turkish bread to make a cut lunch for our walk up Mt Gower. It was fresh and excellent made on Island. Supplies come to the island by "The Island Trader" out from Port Macquarie every second Saturday. No chandlery. I needed a new start battery (failed recharge regulator) but non available. I rewired the solar regulator to get us out of that little "fix". Fuel and water available but by jug only. We needed none but we watched a 68 foot motor boat take on 3000litres so as to complete their Bay of Islands (NZ) to Brisbane crossing. They left with 6000 on board. We used about 100 in total.

Sounds like a great trip. I was in BNE last January looking at a Beneteau 430.

Did you know the largest insect in the world is on Lord Howe?

We thought they were lobsters. Tasty, nevertheless!
