No, That has to go to the "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" IMO, not one of Bogart's best. Oscars or not, terrible. Hell the Blob was better than that! Ugh

"Cape Fear."

When at anchor, have a hard time convincing wife that no one has climbed aboard, regardless of where we anchor.

And what's wrong with The Caine Mutiny may I ask?

Damn good case study of how NOT to be a skipper!

All is Lost should be viewed prior to leaving and while at sea. It's a primer on what NOT to do when cruising.

Captain: "Any mention of mutiny will not be tolerated on this boat, or I'll have the skin off your back!"

Crew: "But sir, it is just a movie!"

When Maralyn and Maurice Baily took to their life raft after a whale sunk their boat Maralyn managed to grab 2 books. A dictionary and one by the Hiscocks (i think)

Re: Books and Movies NOT to take on a Voyage

I liked and appreciated the question and most of the suggestions because they brought smiles to my face, and a couple even added a chuckle to my throat, BUT, the good intent of Steady Hand aside, are there any known to be potential trouble if noticed by authorities in the wrong place? It occurs to me that gun magazines (of the printed type) might rise suspicions that lead to difficulties, as might the odd Playboy magazine, Debbie Does Dallas or even more provocative materials that I feel must undoubtedly exist.

Was the almost-silent one with Robert Redford mentioned? -I just re-reviewed the responses and saw it, All is Lost.

Re: Books and Movies NOT to take on a Voyage

My ex-wife did not want to get back on the boat after seeing Jaws - Belleville, ON on Lake Ontario. I completely disagree with the comment on Master and Commander. I think it is a terrific movie and shows the sea very realistically.

"Hugo, How Two Boys Learned of Life from a Killer Shark." Clunky title, but a good story.
