Re: Bocus del Toro to Puerto Viejo CR

Look at a chart and measure the distance. Divide by the speed you expect to be traveling. That will tell you how long it will take.

It will be a shorter time if you own a Gunboat and a longer time if you own an O'Day 23. It will also depend on the windspeed and direction at the time you choose to leave.

Re: Bocus del Toro to Puerto Viejo CR

Come on, Mark, be nice. I know it's a newbie question, but he's a new member, so it's allowed.

Don, Mark actually did answer your question. If you're sailing from Chamagauras to Limon, it's going to probably end up being about 1,400 nm, for the non-stop direct route. If you can average 6 kts (probably doable since it's all down wind) it'll be a 10 day trip. 5 knots would take close 12 days. Factor in time for stops at any of the islands along the route, if you're so inclined.

It's about 40nm as the crow flies
Should be less than a day sail in just about anything

Paul

Re: Bocus del Toro to Puerto Viejo CR

If he is sailing from Bocas to the Puerto Viejo de Talamanca then it seems a nice day sail?

Re: Bocus del Toro to Puerto Viejo CR

He is in Bocas del Toro Panama (I don't know where Chamagauras is). The distance for him is somewhere between 50 and 70nm depending on his exact location in Bocas. I wasn't trying to be not-nice, but given no information about his exact location, the type/size of boat, the time of year he is leaving or what winds he is comfortable with, it is impossible to give a more precise answer than I did.

OK, my mistake. I thought he was talking about Bocas del Toro, Trinidad, the approach to Chagauramas. Just goes to show, you can't assume anything!
