Boat Truths

Lets collect boat truths.

- Yes I'm bored
- What you want out of the freezer is on the bottom
- On a sunny day the wind is going to blow from the direction to ensure your solar panels get the most shade
- If you hang your towel up on the life lines to dry, it is going to rain
- The wind will always be on your nose if you want to move on
- You never need milk, until you do
- You can't have too much beer on the boat
- The water tank will go empty only in the middle of washing your hair
- When coming into an unknown shallow channel the tide will always be going out
- You will have a good wifi signal all week, until the Superbowl starts

- The ideal mooring you selected is not crowded enough and she feels lonely

- If it looks that there is a perfect empty spot in the anchorage to drop the hook you will find out it's empty for a reason

Re: Boat Truths

In the Sea of Cortez the wind is ALWAYS on the nose, until you buy a trawler. Then it is ALWAYS glorious sailing weather. Yep, I know...

- The smallest and most important part will always slip out of your hand and hide in the most inaccessible part of the bilge.
- Whenever you're out of sight of land, and there's only one other vessel visible, it'll be on a collision course with you.

Re: Boat Truths

- When doing a wiring project and you get some connectors because you don't know if you have any, when you get back to the boat there will 2 unopened paks of the same connectors.

First timers that get seasick will always puke to windward and smell like vomit the rest of the day. You try not to laugh, you fail.

Yeah, and NONE of the ones you REALLY needed in the first place !!

And that wire or sheet or line that you measured so carefully and bought just enough of ? It's not long enough.

Re: Boat Truths

The difference between a fairy tale and a sailing story? One starts with "Once upon a time...", and the other with "No sh!t, there I was, thought I was gonna die..."

You have to check the tide tables before making shoreside appointments.

And the next time you are doing a wiring project and need those same connectors you remember and don’t buy them.
But back aboard you can’t find them anywhere.
Until after you buy more. Again.

I wonder how many boats have sunk from the weight of all this excess lugs and connectors and few of a kind nuts bolts and screws?

You want to take the helicopter for a fine evening of dining out but you forgot the pilot is on his mandatory break. (And you only have 7 crew cabins so you couldn’t possibly hire a second pilot.)

Re: Boat Truths

You haven’t got round to refilling the spare propane tank when the tank you’re using runs out.

The squall’s rain stops just as you finish soaping up.

That shackle that you’ve been planning to change to a fixed pin one still isn’t, and the pin just bounced over the side.
