can get some nasty storm surge at times if hurricanes even get close, & it's not as if the place has much "freeboard". For example, downtown normally has 3-4' (max) at high tide. So changes in the water
levels really complicates things. To the point where if much surge does impact the Chesapeake, you may need a gondola or submarine to get to the show.
I've seen water
at the top of the seawall at USNA a few times, when hurricanes got within a few hundred miles. And they've had to have the Midshipmen move ALL of their cars to a safer location a number of times. Plus moving the sailing team's boats & those across the river at the Naval Station, to safety
So keep an eye on the weather
