I'm looking and have been amazed at the lack of quality photos of boats. Poor exposure, out of focus, duplicate images, and low resolution make it difficult to get an idea of the vessel's condition. Most folks shoot digital so bad pictures shouldn't appear.

While I'd like to see high resolution, I understand the bandwidth problems, but it's be a real plus if you could send the same pics in high res to a potential customer.

1. Line drawing of boat
2. photo looking aft from starboard/port side
3. keel photo
4. rudder and prop photo (if you can include the zincs, the better)
5. Bow area showing anchor rollers, locker, windlass (if installed)
6. Cockpit so I can see the layout
7. Salon looking forward
8. Engine room
9. Galley
10. Nav station
11. V-berth
12. Main berth

for extra credit:
13. a photo of a special/unique feature that sets your boat out from the herd

No order...

- Front deck - including sail arrangement (does it have a removable staysail? Where are the hatches forward?)
- Stern - is there a windvane or room for one? How are the backstays? Ladder?
- Cockpit - how is it layed out and what size?
- Starboard or Port view from bow - how easy is it to move on deck?
- Galley - size and design U?
- Nav station (very important) - can i sit down? storage?
- Engine (very important) this is a must! and I need to know hours.
- Settee / Sit down arrangement - any picture of this area...
- V-berth / Head area - can be one shot where I can get idea of design
- Bottom - need to see the keel and rudder design (very important)

I'll agree with the "clean the boat" boat. I don't want to see how much junk you can store on the berth, I want to see the berth. On the other hand, a table set as if a three-course meal is about to be served does nothing for me. I know they do that for the "admirals" but this girl says just show me a clean boat.

And do we need to say that the boat should be clean when it's being shown? Apparently so, given my experience.

What I want to see in a listing is are photos of the engine and/or bildge. Those two areas will tell me more about how a boat has been maintained than a bucket full of 'glam' photos. (I don't want to be buying someones neglected step child)

I am wondering how clients would be at getting a quick haul out, bottom wash and getting theses shots. Ivenstment up front can help sell a boat. I will think on this one because most boats are floating in the silly water and we have to pick them up to have a look.

We are all going to lift most boats for part of a survey anyway, so will having these shots of keel, rudder, shafts...really make or break whether you will look at my boat v. some other boat, or will you look at both? Hmmm.

I like to see photo's that show the engineering side of Boat, Engine room, wiring (back of swithsboard), Bilge spaces, stern tube, rudder quadrant etc, I once asked a broker for phot of steering gear and got a photo of the wheel, Duh!

Most of these are great! Don't care about set table, models, extras like that - but I do want to know what I'm getting into. Another vote, though, for the line drawing/layout schematic. And measurements - as many as you've got! It can be hard to tell what we're looking at just from a photo - seen plenty of photos of daysailers with what looks like a roomy, well-lit "cabin," but in person turns out to be a well-shot cubby that would sleep 1 - if they're under 5 feet tall.
We are willing to work on the boat if it's needed, but we want to know where - if you could include a photo of any obvious "flaws" it would be great, so we aren't surprised when we find out in person.
