Boat Insurance

Please recommend boat insurance companies/ plans.

I am Canadian and the boat will be registered in Canada. The boat, however, is presently in Rhode Island and will be cruising the Caribbean and the Pacific. I would prefer, I think, an American company.

DB, Try Peter Teuten at 410-752-0505 ext. 1004. He is very knowledgeable about offshore insurance and has the resources to find a company that will give you the coverage you want. He isn't affiliated with any specific insurance carrier. Chuck

A friend uses jackline us boat us owner, had a big claim in Columbia, sounds like they treated him right. Always important to understand agreed value policies. We will pay up to a certain amount vs we agree to pay x amount.

I believe Jackline is a policy offered by IMIS Insurance. Another good agent. Chuck

Watch out for Progressive. They give you a really low rate the first year to get you hooked then jack the price way up the next. Chuck

Re: Boat Insurance

We have been very happy with Commandeur Insurance in the Netherlands for the past four years cruising. We had a lightning strike with significant damage and they paid for everything - new equipment, installation, 5 month marina stay, haulout and survey, mast unstepping/stepping, etc. Their rates, conditions, navigation limits, deductibles and allowing passagemaking with just two people are the best we could find of all insurers.
