BOAT FOR SALE noticed trends

In my recent search for a sailboat around 34ft I have noticed that. 1. Boats for sale by owner are generally dirty and not maintained and are sometimes strewn with owners personal effects. 2. boats for sale thru a broker are geerally overpriced by 20%. I don't know why this is true but I suspect that boats for sale by owner are mostly just because the owner has "given up". Boats for sale through a broker are overpriced because of dreaming and the brokers commission.

Re: BOAT FOR SALE noticed trends

Or maybe the owners of boats for sale by broker feel they have overpriced by 10% expecting an offer. The job now is to bridge the small gap between your 20% preception and their 10% preception. Pretty small difference. Find a boat and make an offer.

So are you tire kicking or buying? You seem to have it figured out. Put your money down.

Re: BOAT FOR SALE noticed trends

I just came from looking at another boat today. It was the right model and priced very low. However the deck and hull topsides had green mold on it. Plus the head was unflushed with bown floating!!!Needed about 8k items replaced. Passed.

It all depends now on the price! If it is $2000 cheaper than the same boat “in clean“, then thats a worthwhile hourly rate for a pressure-cum-bleach wash & a head-clean, no?

I think I see the problem, If you bottom fish you get catfish, gotta get your bait off the bottom for trout.

Sounds like you are shopping the bottom of the market.
Filth, zero maintenance, dangerous propane systems, cobbled together electrical systems, bilges full of oil/diesel, decks like a soft mattress etc.
Suggest you bring your budget up

NO! It may seem that way but now I realize it indicates the character of the seller. And the 'unseens' with be problematic.

Re: BOAT FOR SALE noticed trends

Who says these boats are over-priced? You? Apparently the sellers disagree.

Offer what you think it is worth to you. If the seller agrees, then you’ve found the market price. If not, then you’re likely under-pricing.

Simple...

Been in the marine business a long time. I've seen three absolute steals with over 5,000 surveys under my belt.
