Boat deliveries

I am considering Having a boat delivered from Bay of Islands New Zealand to Newcastle in NSW Australia.

The boat is 36 ft long but only has very basic safety equipment.

What do delivery skippers expect to be on the boat from a safety equipment perspective?

For those of us down this end of the world, is there a time of year that is better to make this trip?

Any recommendations on skippers?

I have recently done Opua to Brisbane twice. One a heavy slow double ender in Sept, hell trip , upwind all the way, slow, cold. The other in Dec in a 47 ft Catana, absolute joy downwind , fast and pleasant, warm (ish).
The price will depend on the boat and time of year. Much prefer to wait a little, Tasman in winter sucks.
If it is a NZ registered boat you will need the full Cat 1 nonsense to be allowed to leave, if not it is up to the skipper, some are pedantic about it, I am happy to skip a few of the items they insist on or a lesser alternative, but the decision to stay or go rests with the skipper (me).
In short, need more info on the boat and the condition it and the gear is in.

Surely they do not expect a boat that is permanently leaving to be Cat 1. That would be insanely expensive I assume!

Sure it needs to be safe, no compromise, but cat 1 as I understand is well beyond that.

If it is NZ registered then yes. Cost will depend on what is on board already, but can go up to 20k, some of the more expensive stuff you can rent, or if you are an Aussie re register it before you leave, but the skipper will still want to know the boat and gear is up to the task.
