Is a broker necessary?

What does a broker do that you couldn't do for yourself?

I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who have bought and sold with and without a broker. So if you're a four-banger, (bought, sold, with, without) say so. Your opinion is particularly valuable to me.

Whether you are the buyer or the seller you want your broker working for you.

We had our broker do all the running around, chasing documentation, organising sea trial, haulout, etc. (never accept a sellers broker suggestion if you are a buyer)

A good broker knows all the little traps and hiccups that you may not be aware of. We had to wait 6 weeks for the seller to sort out a bank stuffup from 15 years ago that only surfaced during the title handover.

We then focussed on the inspection and acceptance of the boat without the seller getting in the way.

That’s because Yacht Brokers work like Real Estate Agents. They are agents whom people consult to find and purchase a boat, and whom people hire to list, represent, and sell boats for them.
