envy is tough sometimes...
i will do my first acro in a T6 texan.
it takes a lot of self control to not do a wing over in the 172.....
thou i may do dirty power on stalls on purpose.... sometimes 3 times in a row.

I will do all the canvas and cushion work myself
I plan on doing most of this myself but I will hire some out.
Some of the less mocking posters have noted that you can't do anything until you get the experience you need and until then it's all a lot of talk and speculation. Aolele will be my school to teach me what I need to know. I may cruise her or sell her and get something else before taking off. My idea is even if I end up spending something like 8G's I've then just reached the value of the boat but it will all be new and done the way I want it. We will see. One of the issues central to the mocking crowd seems to be the labor costs. I will tell you I'm not spending $75 an hour to a guy in the yard. I asked around the dock and will pay $15 an hour to a retired craftsman that used to be that guy. Now he does it because he enjoys it and keeps him busy. The two guys that re-bed the deck hardware got $100.00 apiece and had it done in six hours flat...it's all solid as a rock. I don't know when I first discovered the idea of going cruising or penned my first post, I guess it's here somewhere but it's been a few years at least. It took me that long to get this far including moving to Florida which was my companies doing not mine. Take your time and don't be offended by the mockers and above all ignore the greatest enemy of progress...the almighty generalization.

I did a similar thing and bought a 1974 Bristol 27 for $2,000, but I didn't do a lot of work on it. Replaced the diesel with a new outboard, painted the bottom, replaced the running rigging, cleaned all the crap out of it then started sailing it.

Eventually, I bought a new mainsail then sailed it some more. I actually bought this boat to find out if I would like sailing monohulls. I do, but they are slow.

The boat really won't sail like I want it to until the wind gets up around 17 -25 knots. Then I can enjoy it. Btw, I sail this boat back and forth across the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay which can get pretty bumpy.

So far I haven't repaired anything structurally, but recently added a 60 Watt Solar Panel, a controller/regulator, and an 850 watt dc/ac inverter. Now I can have coffee and charge or run my laptop.

I'm now looking at a 1984 Ericson 35 PHRF 123. I would like a bit more speed. The Bristol's PHRF rating is 240. They are asking $38,900 for the Ericson. Quite a price difference for a little more speed.

It just cant be done ...You can not do it that way ..In my country we do it like this ...By the way, did I tell you that you cant do that? You cant..The reason being ,is that I couldnt do it, and I will be damned if you can... Nice boats if you can get one(but you cant) ..
