Ok...so far, there are more votes for the electrical systems. And of course, the more complex the system is...the more issues I'll find myself dealing with. I guess maybe I somehow knew this already. Recently I have been reading fervently about battery banks and generators and strangely enough...I always find myself in the wiring/power source isle in West Marine. Not really buying but just studying what's there (I know it's not a big selection.) I am starting to pick up a bit on amps and loads. I don't expect to be an expert electrician (figuratively) after a few years but I do what to be a knowledgable boat owner and handle some issues myself.

Re: Biggest Irritant ?

Deck leaks take the price for me . And are the primary cause of electrical problems

Feel the same way about simple women. However, I think you'll find the men on this forum can be quite complex, especially singlehanders... ;-)

Yeah ... the problem with single-handers (and I'm one of them) is that they're so used to doing everything themselves -- they're not just tiller hogs -- they're total boat hogs. You're going for a ride. You don't really get to help sail.

Some will share but for many, if they've been doing it a long time, they don't even think about how someone else could help.

And it can be a disaster if you do. I'll never forget the time I went forward on a single-hander's boat to help him anchor after watching him sprint from bow to stern and back over and over.

He neglected to tell me that the anchor had a bitter end. OOOPS! By the time the anchor told me it was too late. That's the short version.

Re: Biggest Irritant ?

No, not simple men, just simply, MEN

Last week my neighbour asked is I would saw a sheet of ply in half, so he followed me into the workshop and thought he was being helpful trying to hold one end and fight against me as I pushed it through the saw.
I told him to stand clear and I cut it easier alone than with his hinderance, but aint that the way when your used to working alone?

You'll get there.

Don't let the irritating things bother you too much. I found a lot of my personal frustration was born of ignorance. Once I started working on one system or another and started to understand it, it didn't have boogy man powers anymore.

As a side note. All those posts you mentioned earlier that you see about engines or electrical or whatever.... You'll love them when you need them!

Re: Biggest Irritant ?

Funny- nobody mentioned the head - they're always fun to play with when they dont work!
If I could get away with it I would just use a bucket!

Re: Biggest Irritant ?

I is difficult to know just where to start on this one.
1) Me when I make a mistake (again)
2) Fishing pots
3) Fishing boats
4) people who try to raft up inside our boat rather than alongside

Re: Biggest Irritant ?

simple men ARE a problem, and they do not understand they ARE simple.......

anjou, when you are able, you will sail away from the jerks and they will still be scratching their heads..dont ask which one, as could be either one, and wondering....... and you will be laughing sooooo hard......

had a wannabe potential male crew come on board and ask questons and sit on his rear -- wouldnt do anything, just sat. ...wanted a free ride--wont find that on this boat. i sailed away laughing..

Please stop the man bashing as my feelings are being hurt and you are destroying my sense of self worth. ( Whistling smiley face)
