Best Cruising Grounds in the Caribbean / C. America for the Summer?

Looking for input as to where to go cruise in the islands in the summertime.... obviously Hurricanes are a major consideration. Grenadines/Grenada? San Blas? ABCs? Also, does it get to be sweltering hot in these areas with little or variable/light winds? Lastly, are you relatively limited shore-side since many local businesses are closed during this time of year? The flip side is that it may be very nice to go during the "off-season" without all the crowds
