beginning a new livaboard life

hello everyone
after over 20 years of daydreaming of owning and living aboard my own vessel. a few months ago I decided to sell my house that I had no interest in and just started looking at the sailboat classifieds and wondering if I had enough money from my home sale proceeds to buy some kind of a possible livaboard sailboat . after looking over only a few adds I located 2 ketch boats. after the first one I determined it just needed too much work and moved on when another one popped up in the add almost like the first but a complete boat . I spoke to the broker after a couple days of repeatedly looking over the pictures and made and made an offer ,sight unseen in person . a day later I received an acceptance . I then drove to Baltimore from Indiana to see this 38 ketch island trader in person and we took it out on the bay . I was trying not to seem too excited but I loved this boat regardlessd of the updates it needed .im pretty good with my hands and have mechanical knowledge . had survey done and am proud to say I now own my first livaboard sailboat . The boat is going to haulout for the winter and then to warmer climate in the spring where I can give up my construction life and further my dive training and make life interesting . life is good !!!!!!

Good for you. I like you have been wanting to sell everything and live the Corp. life behind living life on the water. Going through all my certs now and will be purchasing a 48'-54' sloop in a few years. Since I'll be living on it for many years I want the room and that's just my personal wants as I don't want to be unhappy buying one to small. Be safe!

Congrats. Big adventures await you. I would imagine sometimes the question of did I do the right thing await you as well, but I think it will be worth it. I am looking at being in a boat come spring time as well. I have always dreamed about living on the water. Happy sailing.

Congratulations. Move aboard, and USE the board first before you start dishing out for upgrades on things like electronics. just have fun and figure out what works you don't really need a lot of gear to get going! get a chartbook of the local waters ( much cheaper than individual charts) and enjoy. a decent VHF helps but really not much else is needed!

$40 bucks of awesome.

Brion Toss: Complete riggers apprentice.
Amazing book of rigging, inspection and sailing know how.

Nigel Calder also has a book on just diesel's alone. very good.

Any book by Capt'n Fatty Goodlander. very good and funny; Chasing the Horizon.

He has a new book on anchoring. 50 years of knowledge. Kindle for 10bucks very good.

you know ,that's how I viewed it. I hear on latitudes and attitudes forum that you don't want to dream your life ,but live your dream . I don't want to be the person sitting in a rocker at 80 or older saying I wish id have done this or I wish id have done that . I want to say I did just what I wanted with my life and have video and pictures to show you .
