Not always.

Coops, those prices are a good deal higher than here except for the Tanqueray. Must be the English connection.

Not always. You need cases of liters. Bacardi Select $9 a liter. No tax $108 a case.

Coops.
Perhaps it's been too long since I lived there, but there were a number of beers that I though were outstanding. Cascade Pale Ale and Melbourne Bitter were two of them.

Re: Australia Day Beer Special

I went to that bar that had the 170 beers and they didn't have one single Aussie beer. The day before I happened to see the beer supplier stocking at the grocery store and asked him about it and he said they don't carry any Aussie beer either. That's just crazy.

I guess I'll just keep drinking seppo beer.

Re: Australia Day Beer Special

I've been told that ciggies in Australia cost $20 per pack (not carton). Is this true?

(This is my first post, folks, but on a VERY important subject: the costs of booze and smokes!)

Re: Australia Day Beer Special

Craft beer is taking over here in oz, anyway. I only drink Little Creatures or Fat Yak now days, the old swill from the mega breweries is just that, tasteless swill. (but some of the mega swill companies are catching on and brewing pretend craft beer, like James Squire - which is very nice hoppy ale, which is a good thing I suppose..)

Yes Palm, you are close. At the supermarket you will pay about $18 for a pack of 25. At a 7-11 or other convenience type shop you will pay about $22-$23 for a pack of 25. The government are trying to save us from ourselves.

Re: Australia Day Beer Special

In Montana the no-name smokes are $4.25 a pack. Camel and Marlboro are the most expensive at $6.25. Packs have 20.
Chewing tobacco is popular away from the cities. Skoal and Copenhagen are $4.25.
I am tobacco free but I used to enjoy a good cigar.
Gas or petrol is $2.94 a gal.

Great song. Its actually called "A walk in the light green" , but almost everyone refers to it as "I was only 19" All the place names in the start of the song bring back memories, Puckapunyal is an Army base in Victoria, Shoalwater (Bay) is just north of Rockhampton with some particularly character building mountains called the Polygons. Canungra was the Jungle training centre near the Gold Coast in Southern Queensland.
