Looks like the current one is going to hang out in the Coral Sea for a couple of days and then head East below PNG (Port Moresby is copping heavy wind and rain from the north side of it at the moment - glad I'm on the Gold Coast). So FNQ has hopefully missed another beating.

The winds have picked up over here in broome we ducked back in here this morning am on very large mooring bouy at moment tucked behind two large iron ore ships , they are suspending all loading from Thursday morning cyclone cat 2

I was thinking the same. impact of increasing human population is rising, especially with promotion of consumer societies.

As humans will not stop, some sort of earth reaction will. nothing special about that, same happens in to population of mice/rats/insects etc.

I have just been out recovering some lines, one line I assumed had broken was OK, the mangrove has broken, this was at least 150mm or 6 inch diameter.
The type of mangrove I'm in is yellow mangrove, the thickest and oldest part of these may not be the strongest part.
My near new 12mm 8 plait nylon line is no longer nice and soft, it's like it has been starched.

Possible that TC Nathan will hit late this week. Current modelling has it crossing the coast somewhere around Port Douglas.

Darn - Just looked at the BOM 4 day forecast. Looks like my BNE-POM flight on Friday morning may be a bit dicey - the normal flight path would right over it

They've now got it crossing the coast near Cooktown on Thursday. Cat 3. Dissipating pretty quickly after that.

Cyclone Ita last year was Cooktown's first cyclone in 60 years, now they may have 2 in 2 years.
I escaped from the mangroves yesterday after 26 days, the midges will be disappointed.

Just been watching ABC news in Oz cyclone now Cat 4 due to hit cook town early Friday morning at 2 .00 am they showed all the charter tour boats heading into the mangroves in port Douglas and are predicting tides of 2 m above high tide

Those creeks are a well used cyclone refuge. There's a lot of sunken boats up there.
