In a perfect world this would be true, but the mono doesn't always right itself. How many haven't righted themselves we will never know.

It doesn't look like we've made any converts, so far.

Or they crumble into very small sections before they reach the bottom..hee,hee...

Re: At The Risk of Starting WWlll

The capsizing argument sometimes used by mono-hullers isn't a very good one.

Sure a multihull capsizes at a lower angle of heel, but the energy required to rotate it to that angle is considerably greater than the energy required to rotate a monohull to its capsize angle.

As your probably aware by now, the issue is not whether a multi takes more energy to capsize, the issue is multis will not recover.

Monos almost invariably will.

Are there some numbers on that?
What percentage of capsized monohulls recover and don't require rescue (i.e. don't sink, and don't have the mast and rigging torn off)?

Is that percentage high enough to make up for being easier to capsize in the first place?

we wont really know how many didnt but we can give a guess as many mono hulled racers have had more than once, a knockdown, or a broach or as as myself, a pitchpole and not only lived throu it but have continued to keep racing after the event took place with the boat intacked.
When a multi goes down, it stays down........

Multi hulls are the answer to a question nobody asked........

You're way too late buddy. While the mono was sinking, the multi floated off to Asia and became a fishing platform. Apparently multies not only have 2 hulls, but they can multitask also.

Yes, very true. Learning a lot of do's and don'ts and fix this and fix that with it while I look for a catamaran within my budget.

Jim.....l think the only fair way to sort out the kids is to organize a demolition derby.... Monos head on with multis at flank speed all flags flying...

That should settle it once and for all. )

Re: At The Risk of Starting WWlll

Multihull sailors will never experience the pure joy of being in an open cockpit as their sailboat executes an unplanned roll while taking on merely a couple hundred gallons of sea water.

And that's why monohulls are better than multihulls.

This is the dumbest argument ever made - it shocks me how often it gets repeated.

Keep in mind people this is the "Cruiser's" forum - we are talking about cruising sailboats, not flying X-boats.

Great idea!

But it will not settle anything...

You can not have a settlement between believers and apostates...
