Asym sock lines

I have a new asym in a sock with a dangling line from the top of the retriever line. Trying to figure out where it goes. See the pix, hoping this makes some sense. The retriever goes to a a small block in the top of the sock that pulls the hoop. A little tight but it goes. The dangling line is the same lighter weight line that runs down the sock. Thx..

Cant really tell without a pic but the sock should have both a downhaul and an uphaul right?

Let me try the pix again. The retriever is a continuous line. The loose line comes from the top of the retriever.

I can't be positive but it looks like you have a line attached to each side of the collar. That is normal. It is done to keep the collar somewhere near horizontal as it is pulled down and so working at its best.

its the line for deploying and closing the chute.

it should be continuous, or at least on many asymms it is..

deploy it by pulling on the "upsock" (? lol).. initially gently with just enough tension on the sheet to control the sail...at a point the chute will fill and you will need to rapidly deploy the rest.
this line is usually long enough to tie off to a cleat, but thats not critical...just tidy

dousing is the reverse..ease the sheet fully and haul that sock down

I have a block and snapshackle on mine, and attach it to something on the deck.

Reason is, pulling up to retrieve the sock can be a real issue in a sudden blow, particularly if the deck is heaving and the retriever is light.

With a block, setting or retrieving the sock is done pulling down, more ergonomic, and you are not fishing around for a loose line in a sudden gust of wind.
