Asia to South Africa

Can someone enlighten me about good departure spots from Asia and W.A. to South Africa? Any kind of info about this will be appreciated.

Re: Asia to South Africa

Most cruisers make the hop from Langkawi (Malaysia) or Phuket (Thailand). Boats generally depart in December-January en mass from these places.

Your post doesn't indicate if you are sailing your own vessel or looking for a crew position. If sailing your own vessel I would recommend keeping as far south as is practicable to reduce the risk of piracy which rises dramatically once west of the Maldives.

Cheers.

Broome and Darwin are the first that come to mind in OZ... Perth I imagine is to far South and would only interest a delivery skipper trying to shorten the trip... currents... winds favourable...
why go N just to run S again past Sri Lanka...

Re: Asia to South Africa

I will be around those parts in a month or so and want to be in the right spot to offer myself as crew later when the time is right. I thought of posting it in "crew available" when im closer..but yeah i should start now.

I will be mainly in Indonesia and Singapore and then plan on going wherever gives me the best chance to meet people going west.

Thanks for the details, I will look into it.

Re: Asia to South Africa

A number of boats departs from Darwin but not many after September.

If in Darwin, you have to monitor not just the marina but also the anchorage.
