My wife and I recently completed the 101 103 104 courses and we had a great time and learned a ton. The dedicated time to
learning without distraction is valuable as is the experience on a smaller
boat. We took the latter courses on our 43 ft
beneteau. We both have experience sailing her but still learned a great deal from our instructor. I highly recommend formal
training which will only compliment your sailing resume. I also just completed the 105 course which was awesome! Very challenging but well worth the time. You get a different appreciation taking
compass bearings and translating your findings to a nautical chart vs just looking at your
GPS. If for nothing else, you will be a safer sailor after
learning the information presented.
ASA 107 is next for me. I would love to do 108 but it is very expensive.
