Not all multihulls are created equal, and some of the earliest designs were built by amateurs who cut corners during construction and who also sailed their trimarans in a severely overloaded condition.
Modern multihulls are vastly different in construction from the older designs, and quality can vary substantially from one manufacturer to the next.
I wouldn't draw any conclusions about multihulls from stories about old designs or about
racing designs.
I felt comfortable and safe sailing my
catamaran around the world, but there are multihulls that I would not take on the same trip. I would have to look at each design and examine the construction to see if I would sail on it
offshore.
