Apps

Just got a sailboat and started looking for useful apps. I found saildroid its a basic app for speed and location havent used it yet but seems pretty basic.
Any other apps that have been useful?

Thanx for the info. I was hoping to find an app that would raise my sails and take me to catalina but now you tell me there is no app for that and i have to do it myself, i have 28' coronado for sale cheap. Thanx again for the help u saved me a lot of time researching this.

I would think sellers would tell you that you have to sail your own boat yourself before you buy it, so many scammers out there its getting bad.

Re: Apps

You got me thinking if we can get a phone to control the TV then we aught to get one that controls a boat! If I can just tie it into my chartplotter/GPS/ais and relay that info to the autopilot....
I have a appp that should do that...
Maybe I can get my camera to take a picture outside to see what the weather is like.
Or I can just access the nearest webcam from my phone:-)

If you get that going I might just keep the boat

Re: Apps

Go to Animatedknots.com -- they have an animated app for making knots that can go right on your Ipod or Iphone. It was really very helpful when I was learning knots.

I have the ship finder free app for iPad. It seems odd that NONE of the ships passing Delray Beach Florida, or leaving Port of Ft Lauderdale show up.

Nice to look at, but I would not use it for real.

Re: Apps

Orux, for mapping. I download NOAA charts, convert the .kap files in the bsb's to .gtiff then use Orux Desktop to calibrate them and load them on my android device (archos). I can then track via gps. Works great as a backup to my paper charts and handy to verify I'm where I think I am. I'm only lake sailing, though, but it was helpful when we were up on Lake Champlain recently.
