We have decided we must bite the bullet and buy the boat we want out of the USA

I am sure Buyers agents are good, bad and ugly

Most brokers can only work an area where they live other than doing what you could do yourself on the Internet. They don't know you and they can't find what they know you want easily.

Long distance purchases carry a much larger premium after the purchase closes. You will invest in the cost of travel on a roll of the dice and have to prepare a boat for a world trip knowing no one locally and basically on an untested boat with all the little unresolved problems you'll find in the first weeks hopefully.

Buying a boat is about you not the broker. They get paid and you take the boat. They will have no problems.

more like the

The only one I liked was up on the liberty pier in Sausalito for years but moved a coupla years ago up to the north bay and I can't find him. I think his name was Don. He used to advertise on craigslist quite a bit and always had nice boats for fair prices.

The good news about looking on the west coast is it will shorten your shipping problems! and there is a good inventory here.

Short of you being able to track down "Don", last seen (unconfirmed) somewhere on the west coast of America, the wisdom in above two posts should be all the response you need to that corny idea.

I'd suggest remembering that "the perfect boat" is only perfect for a moment - your opinions will change over time and place and all the other dimensions during your custodianship of the vessel.

And given that you're 90kms inland and given a realistic likelihood of usage, perhaps you could halve your budget and get "the near enough" boat and salt the remainder away as a deposit for when the dream floats over the horizon? In this market, you can get ample fine boat for $60-$80K imho.

Just another suggestion...
