Any recent reports from Las Aves?

We've been thinking about beating a bit upwind for a final taste of paradise in Las Aves (only Aves de Sotavento) before accepting our fate in the murky waters of Curaçao.

We aren't so much concerned about piracy on this island, as there is a coastguard station there, but we are concerned about how we'll be greeted by said coastguard not having checked-in in Los Roques. One individual told us that if they spot us, they'll come visit, and just ask for $50. But maybe there are worse alternatives...

I don't think we're willing to spend time beating all the way to Los Roques, so if Las Aves is going to give us trouble, we'll just head straight to Curaçao.

If it's not worth it to you to go to the effort of respecting another country's laws, don't go there, please. It leaves a dirty wake in the sense that that disrespect gets generalized to the other cruisers who follow you.

That's a fair point, Ann, and you're absolutely right.

We'll just head straight to Curaçao -- upwind is no fun anyway!
