Re: Any believers out there?

On my vessel, Whistling women are well welcomed. Even the whistling ones carrying a bunch of bananas on Friday. Actually, even the non-whistling ones are welcomed.

Re: Any believers out there?

I only welcome whistling women if they bring a bottle of rum. Standards must be maintained.

Re: Any believers out there?

I ignored the "no bananas on boats" superstition only once. I came off watch and fell asleep in the salon under a hammock full of fruit. I woke up covered from head to toe in smashed banana.

No more bananas on my boat.

Re: Any believers out there?

I had only one rule about bananas in the islands.

When you bought a whole bunch from a village somewhere, it had to be hung a few feet deep off the bow for at least an hour, before being brought on board.

A bunch of bananas fresh off the palm would be host to more bugs, spiders, cockroaches & other vermin than any other item known to man.

And this....is how superstitions get their start - it's really just a practical solution. I, however, try to violate them all. If the Gods or Neptune or Zeus can't take a joke, well then Hell on them

Re: Any believers out there?

Timely, I just set out from port to begin a fishing trip a few hours ago. It's our last one of the year before we head to Seattle for a break, nobody had a bit of interest in sitting in Dutch until midnight.

As an aside, the whole story of the HMS Friday is a fabrication. I was terribly disappointed to learn of that-it was a great yarn.
