Anti-theft Shock Sensor.. Does it Work?

Looking forward to buy a GPS Tracking device with Shock Sensor to be notified in case of theft of my boat.

iTrack 2 seems to be perfect for my purposes, however I'm wondering if after placing this device on a boat, in an inner port, the shock sensor would send me a lot of false positives because of small waves caused by other boats.

From the manual:
Shock Sensor Sensitivity Configuration:
The sensitivity of the built-in shock sensor has three different level
First level: only slight vibration
Second livel: 8 vibrations in 2 seconds
Third level: 25 times in 5 seconds

Do you think I can tune it properly to make it work on a boat, or is it going to detect any vibration which is not a real movement of the boat?

Theft from, or of a boat?

Theft of a boat I would use something like an anchor monitor which sets off an alarm if the boat moves x meters away.

Theft from a boat I would use 3 stage motion sensors inside a cabin to trigger the alarm. Make it set off a very loud siren inside and outside for maybe 30 seconds before resetting, as well as GPS tracking.

What kind of Anchor monitors do you suggest for a 4.3 meters open boat? Just a device example to give me an idea of the category... ?

Sorry, i'm not speaking of a specific brand or item. I'm talking about a technology. GPS movement triggers alarm.

If something doesn't exist perhaps there is a market for it (although usually when i think of an idea, someone else has beaten me to it...).

Ok I see, but yeah... that was my idea. To use the device above mentioned as anchor alarm device. That's why I asked for more feedback about it.

I can't see it working. A boat at anchor is constantly moving, constantly being slapped by waves and the wakes of passing boats. I haven't used it myself, but I wouldn't, just because I cannot believe that it would do anything other than send a constant stream of false alarms.

If you're worried about the boat being stolen then I would put a tracking device on it that communicates to the internet. There are a number of such devices out there--search for "fleet tracking" and I'm sure you'll get a million hits. Then you would just have to check its location regularly, to see if it has moved. And, of course, if it has then you will be able to tell the authorities where it is.

Ok, so motion detection can't work for boats.

What's the difference between the "fleet tracking" devices working with internet yo suggest and the "iTrack 2" GPS Tracker I mentioned in the first post, with a SIM card, via GSM?

Isn't more or less the same? Checking GPS coordinates and sending messages via internet/sms to a receiver?

The only practical sensor for theft of the boat is geo fencing.

Mind you as far as the stats go , I believe actual theft if a boat is a rare occurrence, with petty theft of boat items being more prevalent

Ok, a small trailerable boat like that might be more likely to get stolen. Since it is small and trailerable why not just put it in a secure storage area. Good old fashioned physical security is hard to beat.

I'm assuming there are no boat ramps anywhere close by? Sorry, but I've never been there so dont know how common boat launching ramps are. In most areas of the US, they're all over the place

No there aren't, but I mean, that's the thing, I have the boat 50 meters far away from my house, I like it. That's why I was looking for an anti-theft device.

Most GPS sites can set a geofence so that sends you an alarm if the boat leaves a preset area. I use gps-trace.com
