Re: anti-Facebook rule?

Deactivated mine recently. Notice that you simply suspend it, but w/your password it comes up as if nothing happened as far as deletion, which I guess is correct...heebeejeebees. I realized that other than a waste of time, I didn't really want some people (bad guys, potential creditors, wives....to know I have a sailboat. Also, my (former) overseas girlfriends had a way of finding me....So long, Zuck.

Apparently some thieves have used FB information to get good at guessing the answers to your security questions.

They do, however, check facebook on a somewhat hourly basis. When I post on the group's wall, 80% of the class will see it within half an hour.

at least this is how the world works here in California.

What ever happened to it being the student's responsibality to know what was required. If they aren't prepared, well their grade should take a hit. They only had 3-4 classes to keep track of!

Probably like most here, when I got my first degree email was only in a scifi movie.

I've tried deleting my fb account a couple times but it keeps coming back.
I dont like companies, people or restaurants with poor integrity and I believe facebook to have poor integrity.

Haha! I was thinking the same thing! And these `students` are going to school to prepare for a job... I would assume. They better get used to email!

Re: anti-Facebook rule?

wearing a speedo doesn't cut down people taking photos, but it may cut down the number of people wanting to go out.

Sheesh.

I'm seriously considering having a placard made up that says, "What happens on this vessel stays on this vessel, and anyone publishing photos of this vessel's crew on social networking sites will not be welcome aboard again."

Has anyone found effective ways to discourage this behavior?

Would any of your female facebook friends happen to be single, attractive, and looking? If yes to all the above, 'den tell 'em 'dat I gots a boat and 'dat I'd be happy to take them out sailing.

I periodically sail with a guy who must be wanted by the CIA or something 'cause he is paranoid about being uploaded anywhere, or having his email address, full name, or bra size written anywhere...

When the cameras (smartphones) come out, he simply says "I dont want my photo on facebook"... and generally backs it up with some kind of follow up "Im serious... ".

He's not pushy about it, and besides thinking he's a little bit paranoid, nobody cares, and everybody respects it.

Being untaggable only fixes half the problem - your friends in common will still recognise you in the photo, so you'll still get asked on sailing dates.

Re: anti-Facebook rule?

Never been on f***book, looked at it on somebody else's computer once and that was enough puerile drivel for me, and as someone who can do the drivel as well as anybody you would think that it was made for me.But, I like to think that my drivel is based on humour, however pathetic and misguided i am at times, and not a collection of "picked my nose today" insights into the mentality, if that is the right word, of the writer.

Re: anti-Facebook rule?

Facebook has run it's course. It was great when it it was all college students yucking it up over their drunken frat party photos, but for adults it just doesn't work - especially adults who depend on their personal reputations

Re: anti-Facebook rule?

Facebook is for adults that do not want to grow up. Part of being a grown up adult is leaving all that.
Having a hundred or a thousand friends means nothing if they are not real friends. If you have a few real friends you should consider yourself lucky.
I am amazed at the people that consider and brag about Facebook friends.
I hate to break it to you dummies, but they are not friends. Will they come and pick you up if you need a ride, will they help you move tommorow if you need their help? I doubt it.
Get a real life and real friends !!!!
