This story has been reported extensively in local media. However all the coverage that I have heard has been long on sensation / emotion and short on detail. The guy was rescues about 380 Nm sw of Tas, having spent a few days in his liferaft. The limit of the details that I have heard was that he was dismasted and that his hull sustained damage from the mast. Without wishing to prejudge based on scant informaton, I'd be interested to know more details on the state of the boat when abandoned in favor of the liferaft.

Alain is a very seasonned sailor (17 transatlantic crossings, mini-transat race, Figaro solo race) and has a charter boat company in France.

The accident happend when the boat was rolled and had its mast teared off, the damages that followed this event were too large to keep the boat afloat and Alain had to use the liferaft, the boat then sunk.

According his website, he reinforced the rigging on the A35, but the sea was obviously and as usual the winner, the rescue boat have monitored 7 m / 21 feet high waves when they found him...pretty bad conditions for small boat.

This is kind of happy ending, thanks to the PLB, although it is a great loss for Alain as he is not going to be covered by the insurance for the boat, his words.

Thanks and congratulation to the rescuer that made a great job saved his life in this very remote part of the world.
