And you want to Sail in the Southern Ocean and round Cape Horn?

Just came across this video. Typical Southern Ocean seas. I couldn't imagine being in a small sailboat in such conditions!

More video. And to think this was recorded from a big ship. Just imagine what it would be like on a sailboat.

Re: And you want to Sail in the Southern Ocean and round Cape Horn?

The southern ocean is so unpredictable, 7 am I was cooking breakfast on a glassy rolling sea with all sail up doing 3 knots the owner even took of in the tender to get some photos. By 11 am we were under bare poles doing 8 knots in mountainous seas and 50+ wind and by 7pm everything was back to normal large rolling seas with a 15 knot south westerly. Do I like the southern ocean, NO. Will I go there again maybe maybe not.

I guess it's ok when you fit between the waves. When the waves fit over you, then you remember your EPIRB

This is what that drogue system you spent hours sewing together and that good bottle of rum you have been saving are for.

Love that you can hear the sound of the Sat C printer at the beginning, unmistakable sound.....

Jean Socrates Sail-World.com : Sailor Jeanne Socrates, world's oldest non-stop female circumnavigator may not have said she prefers to travel the southern ocean, but has done so at least three times. I think she prefers this to the hassle of the Canal, plus the fact there is usually a good wind.
