Excellent tool to reassure an anxious neighbour that you are actually twice the distance they think you are. Also for checking how far that rock is. Great for reducing better half stressing.

If you can speak to the nearby boats, then likely too close (at least for an overnight stop) - but for exchanging info about anchor scope / holding / plans an excuse to dinghy over for a chat .
Maybe make up some fender boards with steel spikes facing out?

cat litter works great---lol especially if the offensive one is up your transom...lol...

most real cruisers leave radios on 24/7, especially in strange locations and new places.

news flash--it is the accepted manner of sending and receiving invites to dine and spend relaxation time and parts finding, and info between boats in an anchorage.

we just dont use channel 16 except fro emergencies.
