Re: Anchorages near Miami - Deep draft

Yes, I would be extremely careful going into Marine Stadium, I'm pretty sure this is the very definition of "local knowledge applies..." The charts do nothing to give you an idea of the complexity of sandbars on entry. On the other hand, very secure once you get inside. Alternatively, you can anchor almost anywhere in Biscayne Bay as long as there is no coral. Just tuck in anywhere on the eastern side of the bay, in the lee of the barrier islands. I've anchored off of Sands Key and Elliot Key many times. If you go through Featherbed Bank, there is an area of 7-10 foot depths along Elliot Key, should be plenty of water for you, and little boat traffic (which can't be said for anywhere N of there). pete

Re: Anchorages near Miami - Deep Draft

Related question: we want to spend about 6 month as live-aboards at a marina in the Miami area. We draw 2.67 meters (just under 9 feet). I am having trouble finding any local options. Some suggestions ( in fact, any suggestion) would be appreciated.

Miami Beach Marina can take you at $50/ft/month

Miami Beach Marina in Miami Beach, Florida, United States - Home

We got into Dinner Key with 8ft at high tide.

Miami Marinas

You can probably get into some of the the Ft Lauderdale marinas.
