Anchorage in Dana Point, CA

Does anyone know if Dana Point, CA has an anchorage and if it does where it's at?

Thanks in advance!

Every time I've been there I've used the guest slips. You can anchor for a few days off of Doheny beach. It's protected during prevailing NW and Santa Anas. Turns into a washing machine during winter storms.

Look at the Google Map of Dana Point. There is also an anchorage at the East end, just as you enter the harbor, to your right.

I rarely see anybody on the east end. West end is protected well and usually has room. You may get the dyetab in the tank dealio there. Guest docks are on the west side too.

3 day limit IIRC, and there's a 3 day off of doheny too - they changed it due to a fleet of derilicts that were anchored out there.

Re: Anchorage in Dana Point, CA

PutASailOnIt and myself are now anchored in the east basin. We tried the west basin but it was full with 4 boats! Yes, this anchorage is tiny. I assume to discourage long term anchor outs. The east basin is even smaller. We have 9ft. under the keel and 100 ft of chain out. The bottom here was once bulldozed and feels like clay when the Rocna dug, skipped then dug in. When we swing, we're within 20 ft. of a mooring and 30 ft. from a marker...it's that small.
Ya...we could have anchored outside but figured this was a little safer. I hope I'm right.
