All Is Lost

Quite recently I watched the movie "All Is Lost" starring old veteran Robert Redford. The movie does not say where the boat is coming from or where it is heading to. The movie is parcticall all silent save for the usual sounds of nature.

Somewhere around Sumatra Reford wakes up (sailing solo) because of loud splashing sounds. Through the topside of the port water sloshes inside the boat in a large volume. The reason was that he had hit a partly submerged
20 ' container. An event that is a real soloist nightmare. The boat had hit the container on its corner and a large hole was the result just a little above the waterline.

Then the strange things are going to happen. We all now the VHF emergency procedures. Redford did not. SOS he called a few times, when he discovered that his VHF system was dead. For some reason he discovered that the connector to the Aerial was broken down. So he went up high in the mast, not thinking of making a replacement-antennae, which is not that difficult.

He repairs the boat with glass and resin.

From that moment on, everything he did was against common seamanship.

I hope that you might be able to watch the movie.

Re: All Is Lost

Sorry, I was all summer busy and hardly been on the forum. Therefore not familiar with all the running threads.

The point is that if Redford did everything to the book than there was no reason for a movie. But a few stupidities are definitely in. The SOS call is bizar.
