What kind of Alcohol do I use for an Alcohol Stove? May I use "Coleman Fuel"?

Wow, thanks. I can do that. I have a 77 Searay SRV 240 that was handed down to me and I am learning as I go. Any recommendations on possible resources for an operation/ instruction manual for this boat?

Go to Home Depot, or similar, and look for:



It will be with the paint thinner.

Get a plastic gallon container for it.

searon, you can also use METHYL ALCOHOL. Be sure that it is 99.9% pure and it does not leave any residue after it burns. It is MUCH less expensive. You can get it also at Home Depot, paint section.

Thanks, I am hearing from many who are against alcohol and recommend propane conversion. That might be in the future. I've many other issues to deal with like getting this rig sea worthy. However, I will try the Methyl and sea (see) what happens.

Welcome aboard! I had a kerosene stove once that had to be started with alcohol in a little cup and will never again. I heard alcohol isn't too much better.
Now I have propane which I like. Just have to be extra careful.
Don't use coleman fuel in your stove or kerosene lamps.

My 77 Sea Ray has this and I wish I can get a book on it. Im gonna try "Denatured" or methyl and see what happens. We may never use this stove anyway, but I wanted to try and restore all the amenities. I can't figure out how the fridge works. Do they make 12 volt fridges?

There are many 12volt fridge options. The amp hours you have available is the first thing to consider. Then how will you recharge the batteries. Then you can consider getting a fridge. I like the Engel portable units.

It's just my opinion, deep six the alcoho stove. not very good to cook on, flares up. It was probably OK in the 40s. l think I'd look for a LP stove, even if it took small replaceable bottles. The type used on a lantern or touch, depending were you are.

I agree with cadence, we had one like this on our 23 foot sail and it worked great.
