Abacos and Eleuthera chartering suggestions

Hey all!

Chartering out of the Abacos for two weeks mid Sept and planning to head south to Eleuthera Islands as well. I know the Abacos very well, but have only ever delivered boats straight past Eleutheras and Exumas - so a bit unfamiliar with good spots to check out. Priorities are: decent holding, snorkeling, maybe a pub or two, cool exploring. We've got a 44 cat, so draft won't be much of an issue. Any suggestions for stops?

Thanks!

There is a good anchorage at Royal Island on the north end as you come in. Very protected, and would be a good place to rest up if needed. Be careful going through Current Cut. Watch your tides.

One of the coolest places we have ever seen was the Glass Window. Don't miss this!. Anchor someplace close, and dinghy ashore where this is a small beach. Walk the road to the bridge at the Glass Window.

Governors Harbour was a nice stop for us.

Go to the Ocean Hole in Rock Sound. Pretty cool. Also, a very good place to provision. There is a large grocery store, a bank, liquor store, etc. Friendly people. We found Eleuthera quite different from Abaco and the Exumas. Not as remote as the Exumas, but without all the commercial feel of Abaco. Try it, you'll like it. Typically, good sailing too because of wind direction and protection from the Atlantic.

They are going to let you leave the Abacos?

Zboss - Yep, we got the OK from Dream Yacht Charters to make the cross to Eleuthera. They didn't seem overly concerned, other than making sure we returned to Marsh Harbour.

Rock Sound in the Eleutheras is a wonderful place, blue holes, easy touring caves, very friendly people, great grocery stores, and liquor stores, folks will offer you rides. Government Harbor, good anchorage, don't bother with the moorings.
