Thanks for that. This will be my 14 year old's first summer of sailing. Hoping that she'll be creating some fond memories too.

Re: A young girls perspective on rebel heart. 10 years later. New York Times today.

My almost 4 year old son has sailed almost 10,000 miles and crossed the Gulf Stream 6 times. I believe he is in more danger walking down the sidewalk or crossing the street as a car could lose control for many reasons and take him out in the blink of an eye. All of which we could do nothing about. On our boat we are in total control. If something happens we cant control we have a lot of time and space to work it out. I would much rather be floating in a raft alive waiting for help and working on helping ourselves. Just think the next time you drive down the freeway at 60 mph. If the person in the car beside you sneezes and twitches the wheel what are you going to do about that?

mikeod ... I think about that every time I go outside or drive. Yesterday there was a fatal crash near my house. Some one is miss them right now. They didn't have sea room to avoid it or reduce sail to make is less. CRASH ... BYE

Great article ... and NY Times, too. Millions well read this article. Maybe some will even be inspired to weigh anchor and shove off.
