A Tech Diesel Question

Does anyone know if a GRP fuel tank will hold diesel?

Sure. GRP is used for diesel tanks.
Now of course the one you have may not......

Yep! gas or diesel...its the ethanol that's causing the issue.

That was a rather obscure reply.

What I want to do is line a portion of my ferro hull with GRP Then plonk the other five sides of a tank, made of heavy ply and lined with GRP, onto that portion. Bond the plonked box to the GRP bonded to the hull, then cover the whole thing with cloth and resin.

In this way I would get a diesel tank (of about 100 gallons) below the aft cabin sole.

The construction bit is not an issue. I just want to know if GRP will withstand diesel.

Cheers

West System used to saturate ply provided 80 gallons of diesel in the main tank on one of my catamarans.

Well your original question was vague. So your answer was as well. Sorry.
But you now clarified things much better.
That would be called a integral tank. It is done on some production boats and many do it to their boats after.
Yes it can hold diesel fine. But there seems to be a issue with some additives in bio diesel that might cause a problem later. So some don't like it.
Search on the forums and you will find discussion on it.
Good luck on your project. Post a pic when your done.
Bob
