I have sailed a trailor sailor (26 foot Balboa) for about 8 years. I just bought an Islander 36 and need to sail it from Lake St. Clair up Huron through the locks and home to Baraga Michigan on Superior. Anyone have any idea how long this will take between motoring and sailing 24 hours a day (have a crew of 5.)
You are going up current
so just a rough estimate here since we did it in the opposite direction.
1. A good day (24 hrs) from St. Clair to Lake Huron
2. 24 to 36 hrs to St. Marys river.
3. 24 hrs through St. Marys and the Soo locks...use the Canadian lock. Don't need a passport unless you get out of the boat.
4. 24 to 36 hrs to Baraga.
These are optimistic forecasts, that is using best case weather
and favorable winds. In general, wind
may be against you on Superior.
