Re: 92-year old Navy veteran on boat delivery.

My mom is in her eighties, has only one lung, and does passages with us every year. Passages that put us from a few days to more than a week to the nearest port.

She doesn't feel confident in her night vision, but does stand the dusk and dawn watches. She can't reef by herself but otherwise can handle most tasks and is smart and observant enough to wake someone else well in advance. A very valuable member of our crew when she is aboard.

Each person is different, the calendar alone doesn't tell you much.

92-year old Navy veteran on boat delivery.

You guys see where some of the D day survivors parachuted into France?
Had to be over 90, one I believe was 97, and yes it was a tandem jump, but at 97 that was a feat!

I'm 76, if he wants to go, then GO!

You're never too old to have fun doing something you like.
I'd do it in a heartbeat and never worry about it at all.

Re: 92-year old Navy veteran on boat delivery.

UPDATE: Since this seemed to be a popular subject I thought I'd provide an update. More to come but my dad posted this in the L40 facebook group.

"I just sailed with my son Kurt and his love Rennee on their new L40 from Fort Lauderdale to Salt Pond in Virginia. I am 92 years old and have bad legs from 28 years in military. I had no trouble getting in or out of the aft port bunk. I made sure I knew where my next hand hold would be when I moved about the boat, remember one hand for the sailor and one hand for the boat. As a result I have no black and blue marks. Loved every minute. Stood watch with Rennee 2 on and 4 off. Worked well with my bad legs and she a new sail boat person."

Thanks again everyone for all the opinions and advice!

Kurt

Thumbs up Re: 92-year old Navy veteran on boat delivery.

@ Snowind,

Thanks for coming back to give us the fill. I'm delighted it all went so well, especially since it was a bucket list item for your Dad. Good on you all.

Delighted to read that he went and the trip was a success.

This is the good stuff a full life is made of.
