1 month sitrep

So i have owned the Union Pacific for a month now, and have found a few good things, and some very bad things.

The good:
engine is a champ, very solid condition, just needing a rewiring. with 1000 hours on it, it is brand new.
hull is in great shape and solid.
sail are great, as is rigging, genoa needs minor work.
deck repairs are going very well, with only about 5 pieces of trash teak on the entire yacht.
all deck rigging plates are well sealed, and not leaking.
fresh water pump works ok.
auto pilot works perfect
radar works perfect
battery charger works perfect
steering system flawless
all winches are in flawless shape
yacht looks great
floors in great shape inside
teak deck 10% done


The bad:
mercerator pump is shot
fridge compressor is shot
front bilge pump is shot
stove is a joke.
rear AC has no water flow
generator puts out no power
one battery will not hold a charge
VHF radio appears to not work at all, not turning on, DX not important right now.
stereo is shot
mast head wind sensor system failure
no navigation
depth finder stopped working
speed sensor not working
block pulleys on running rigging all need replaced
windlass need attn
only 150' of chain rode
35# anchor is not big enough
no rear anchor
rear stay is rotted
dingy is worthless
most sea cocks are stuck
fitting in hull plumbing for bilge and AC supply pumps are made from plastic and steel garden hose parts
life lines are shot
all running rigging is poorly planned
all lexan is cracked all over
someone put the water pump">raw water pump on sideways so you cannot change the belt.
heads need rebuilt or replaced


The ugly:

entire ceiling liner needs replaced
mattresses need replaced
engine compartment is lined with some type of flammable foam
generator has no sound dampening
lazerette is frustrating
sink drains into bilge
laminate need replacing all over
showers drain into bilge




The not there:
no inverter
no freezer
no automatic bilge pumps
no navigation (was loran c)
no radio
some dodger parts missing
no clutches on running rigging
no way to turn on, or off 3rd battery????? its connected to what?
generator not charging its own battery
no washer/dryer
no Y valves on the heads



The i have no clue:
seems to be more tanks then there are needs???

water tank, black tank, fuel tank, fuel tank, and one more.... unknown?

front bilge and rear bilge unconnected?

how the heck do i get the electric panel off?????????

Sounds a bit like ours. :P

What's your plan with the showers draining into the bilge? Turns out everything on our boat drains into ours and I really, really don't like that.

they drain VIA a hose. i will plumb the hoses to a small centrifugal bilge pump, then up and out.

Hiya Scoob! About $36K USD should be in your repairs/replacement budget, not including labor. On the positive side, I think that you've done a fantastic job assessing the condition of your boat; an unusual list. Keep us posted on your progress! Good luck!

I'm going to have to do some figuring on getting something like that set up in ours... few more sources of water on ours though. x_x A lot of what you've got on your to-do list sounds like fun, though!

i pegged it at 16,000.
yes, i have looked at every square inch of the boat now.
the garden hose stuff freaks me out.
good part is i can do all the labor myself, except lifting 8D batteries

It's all good scoobert!

The extra tank is is most likely the second water tank. The 55s have 2 fuel tanks, 75 gallons each and two water tanks, 160 gallon and 90 gallon, total of 250 gallons of agua.

Not sure of your question about the bilges being unconnected.

There should be two clips on the panel, then it is hinged to swing open.

What year is the U.P.?

Looks like the frame has to come off to access the back of the panel.
