Western Caribbean Route Planning and Advice Sought

After many months of repair due to a lightning stike, we are finally leaving Cartagena. Our general planned route is the San Blas Islands, Roatan (bypassing Providencia), Rio Dulce, Belize and Cancun. We plan to avoid Nicaragua at this time. We are looking for suggestions for specific locations along the way, marina recommendations (where available) and maintenance / repair resouces if required. The 50' Benetau is a sound vessel but after extensive work being done we all know that their always some residual gremlins that may need to be exorcised. Any general advice would be greatly appreciated identifying special spots, islands or places along the way. Any general weather observations could be useful. ETD November

Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: Western Caribbean Route Planning and Advice Sought

If you don't stop at Providencia and want to stop for the night, there is another anchorage just a few hours north at Low Cay. Totally out in the open but there is some reef for protection. Next stop would be the Vivarillos Cays. Pretty good anchorage. Fishing boats stay there during storms. Roatan would be the next place to get supplies. Get your boat repairs taken care of on the Rio Dulce. Try to stay off the Honduran coast as you near Guatemala. Some boats sail up to the Sapodilla Cays and then down the Rio rather than come close to land.
My experience is, don't head up there till Dec. Hang out in Bocas if you need to kill time, you can haul there also.
