Vlogging, Atlantic Crossing 2016 and upcoming 2017
I thought it might be interesting to start a thread for and about boats making video logs of their atlantic crossing and prep for this year2017.
This should make it easier for interested parties doing the same trip to access info from the other vloggers ahead of them about local conditions and info.
Booboo who wrote this enquiry which gave me the idea
perhaps the mods could make it a sticky for easier access if there is any interest over the next few days
http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...it-191045.html
Atlantic crossing November 2017- who is doing it.
And what's your departure date, departure port and destination?
https://www.youtube.com/user/BooBooNZ
PLEASE DO ADD vloggers on this years crossing, and perhaps add a short intro.
i found these guys recently, great quality camera work, and interesting kiwi style and perspective, not much sailing exp,but learning fast!

Yeah good idea.
We have a Facebook page for the journey and I am doing some vlogging as well but pretty low level stuff. No fancy cameras, drones or editing software for us... More just to keep friend and family at home updated on the trip.
I have a bunch more videos to upload but haven't had Wi-Fi for a couple of weeks now.

Have been watching the Inspire one , a little different from most , maybe just because EU based ( for now ) , can't help wondering how they could afford that boat but certainly no jealousy .

well i hope it helps for your prep work, good idea to include the website or facebook page link for other boats if they want to contact you.
barnekiel raised a good point of how boats will post from the high seas as not that many boats are able to upload big files even if they do have satcomms, and have to rely on cellphone data and wifi cafe's..
so i it would be an idea to include good vlogs from last years crossing.
so please share if anybody knows of some good ones with lots of info on them of stops on the way from last year
.
currently there must still be boats heading south from northern europe and others out of the med, to the canaries, cape verde etc where they can upload vlogs from on the way which gets us as far as november with new material.
members might want to share the thread on the cruising yachts face book that they know that are doing the crossing

Re: Vlogging, Atlantic Crossing 2017
I can tell you that no one will be uploading from the boat at sea. Unless of course they don't mind spending thousands on Sat come and data.... Even then it would take a very long time with the sat data transfer rate.
I typical 10min long video in half decent quality will be around 1gb so it pretty hard to even do it off a mobile phone with a solid data package.

thats good info for people hoping to set up a youtube channel from their boat
i see rick the canadian guy with the parot ssl ? has set up a streaming web cam on his boat,so he must have some pretty awsome wifi in the caribean or cell connectivity.
probably a good topic for discussion here on the thread as well, also good spots for downloading in portugal, gib ,morrocco, canaries and cape verdes, caribean and costs

Re: Vlogging, Atlantic Crossing 2017
Well, they make money vlogging, so they could spend some of the money on sat comms.
If just to make say two or three offshore episodes, short, 480p teasers.
I would.
How big is a 15sec 480p file?
Cheers,
b.
